Special Ops: Lioness – Bruise Like a Fist – Season 1 – Episode 3 – RECAP

Special Ops is a army/terrorism related drama I have been watching, there are tv series that I use to fill in time when I don’t have anything else to watch and this does not mean they are bad, some times it also depends on the time that I manage, there is so much content out there that anyone with a job a family cant keep up on a daily bases. Special Ops finish its first season with a score of 7.7/10 on IMDB, that’s a great accomplishment for a series that didn’t have that much of advertisement online in my opinion, similar to Citadel who ended up with a lower score but for different reasons.

The series starts hard with a lot of action but moving into the second and third episodes its partial action and more drama, I think this is mainly because the job of Cruz, the women above; is to infiltrate Aaliyah Amrohi daughter of a high profile terrorist that everyone believe is a ghost, on the side there is Joe who lead the Lioness programs with problems of her own at home with her kids and husband who barely see them because of her line of work, she constantly have to travel around the world and can’t tell or give details about her job, everything is top secret.

The two main characters Joe (Zoe Saldana) and Cruz Manuelos (Laysla De Oliveira) in my opinion had done a great job, I have seen a few comments online saying their acting is weak but this is just probably people expecting more action from the series considering is terrorism war related, consider this is not a field series this is espionage/undercover also its more oriented to a undercover women trying to infiltrate another women so its obvious we will see girly stuff scene, keep expectations to the ground.

Fucking Monday, that’s what this episode is about, a shit storm that is coming towards Joe, it all starts by helping another agent who knows about her operation, his name is Kyle and his specialty is Drug Cartels, he needs to do an extraction, one of his informers got caught and he needs to take him out of custody before they transport him to jail, if that happens he is a dead men and most likely will snitch on Kyle revealing all his operation. There has to be some relationship between him and Joe since she accept to give him three agents for 48 hours to get this job done, she must really trust him.

On the Cruz side of things, she arrives to Laysla place, got no clue what to talk about, who their friends are, if she is in danger or not, security is tight as fuck but the guys were smart enough to hide all mics on her, the way Joe tries to get Cruz blend in is a bit different than the “traditional” strategy we see on movies where agents get a full debrief of the target before they move in, Cruz doesn’t because Joe wants it to be natural as possible to really make it work.

At an episode three is normal for new characters to pop up, specially when this series is still moving very slow, there still five episodes to go, Laysla start to introduce all her friends to Cruz, they running a mini Melrose Place thing, for all the OGs; where all her three friends have slept with two men and take turns depending on how drunk they are, the other two men are friends with Laysla too, one is her fiance cousin, Nala, Malika and Nashwa, the most friendly is Nala who I think in the future will have to do with Cruz, idk.

If you have seen my previous two post, remember how Joe put Cruz through the grinder, beat the hell out of her at a ops base? well she is all fucked up and Laysla made a big deal out of it because she knows some one abuse Cruz, calls a doctor to have her check, the entire drama, Cruz cover almost got blown out by the Doctor but she manage to put on a sad face with tears about to pop so he believe her the “abuse” from her boyfriend is over so she can move on, bit intense scene but it was obvious nothing was going to happen, it is just too early on the series, good guys cant die yet.

Joe problems, not only Kyle ask to borrow some of her guys, not only Joe almost blown Cruz cover because she didn’t need to put Cruz on a grinder to find out if she really breaks or not, everybody does at some point; she finds her daughter Kate at home making out, when she ask her husband wtf was suppose to be that he answers back “top only…pants stay on, sacrifice top to keep the bottom safe” LOL that was fkn funny, her daughter Kate is full teenage savage mode always arguing with Joe about how she is never there for them and comes back home pretending to be parent, its a valid point when she has no idea what’s her mom job and that’s something Joe has to live and deal with.

Moving forward, the three most action junky agents from Joe group accept to work on this mission she ask for volunteers without knowing wtf it was about until they were on the truck with Kyle and start to ask questions, Kyle is against the wall on this mission, is from zero to hero or his entire operations goes belly up, he is in desperate mode and everything has to go through flawless, plan is to intercept the transport, use an EMP to shut down cameras and so they can jump in and take his informant, simple right? at this point in time Two Cups, Tucker and Tex (Joe’s agents) want to think over what they are about to commit when its just too late, they already aboard, no way back out.

Things didn’t go as smooth as planned, they did get the informer back but Drug Cartel members were already after him and try to front run Kyle so the only thing they achieve was to keep him alive, informer cover has been blown and is worthless for Kyle, Two Cup and Trucker and to put up some work to get rid of the Cartel goons, their main problem is that this job was suppose to be clean as fuck but when you have more than two car wrecks and half a dozen bodies some one is going to dig deep enough to figure out who did all this mess.

After the entire bruises drama, Cruz got invited by Laysla to party without knowing here until she finds herself inside a private jet where the team cant probably listen to her anymore and also might become hard to track her so they now are in a rush to get close to Cruz again as soon as possible, Cruz did manage to read the plane plate before they were gone so Joe can find out where the plain was going.

As you can tell this is not a series you need to expect a lot of shooting and constant action scenes, yes first episode probably sold the series like that, they open up with massive attack to the US Army base, a fucking warthog going down on the terrorist it was insane but this episode specially was very slow, bit of action towards the end with the extraction but the series is more about the drama, the suspense of how deep can Cruz gets into Laysla family, they trying to attend the weeding with the hope that Laysla father will be present, Cruz orders are to kill him the moment she gets in contact with him, I don’t know how is that going to happen, are there thing to be consider like Cruz safety or does she has to go kamikaze on Laysla’s father?

Class of 09: The Fitness Test – Season 1 Episode 2 – RECAP

The first two episode of Class of 09 show that future where humans stop trusting on what they can do or not and decide to base human behavior on possibilities, Teyo is a master at doing this and the results are positive although is a practice that may create the wrong impression for those affected by the system, those who either get arrested or some how halt before they could commit a crime, in present days that method doesn’t exist, you cant get arrested for a crime you haven’t commit yet, for Teyo is pure mathematics and profiling people and there is a long line of people after him, those who have been intervene by the system and they think its unfair for them but Teyo thinks about the effectiveness and the victims the FBI can safe, its all Minority Report from the start.

The interesting part will be how all this characters build up their stories, Teyo, Poet, Nazari, Lenix, how they all graduate and start their carriers from the bottom all the way to the top, going back and forward between three timelines might be confusing for some people but I find it interesting, makes you to connect dots as you are watching the episode, this TV series has good acceptance by the audience usually with over 7/10 per episode on IMDB.

Episode 6 is more about the struggles of Tayo to start at the FBI, make it and stay a the top, he is not the gym type of guy so it was obvious he would have troubles passing the physical test to become an FBI special agent he was probably ashamed of his shape because all the other guys on the locker room were fit and he was a bit over weight but he has a lot of determination, a very analytic guy, study people, profile them to stay steps ahead somethings showing he is too cold as time goes by specially when he is at the top as FBI director.

Its only the second episode so its normal that we still have some of this first episodes focus on giving background of the main characters, in this case its Teyo everywhere, it starts with his class taking the physical exam, one and a half mile under twelve minutes and twenty four seconds for the men and fourteen minutes for the women, he is out of shape and initially failed, its true that some agents will become very important desk agents, them do most of their work with their brain and field agents are usually in better shape but when they are starting at the academy its the same rules for everyone, doesn’t matter what they want for them in the future they all have to go through the same training, Teyo shows since the first episode he is a desk agent, how he profile people and understands how the system works, that’s is his best skill analyze others and try to predict what will be the outcome of a situation, he does something similar with one of his college how tries to bring him down after he failed the test basically telling him to quit but Teyo knew there was something more to it.

Teyo is send out with Agent Nuñez to visit Mark Turpirik a wealthy man who lives in the country side, this was in the present of the story line 2023, Mark has a large amount of followers, in his defense all he is doing a great service to the community by joining all this broken men who lives and work their farms, mostly forgotten by the society but he brings them together and gives them a place and purpose to keep going, it seems that part of the country side has a lot of suicides and homicides, he even compare his movement with the natives who have their reservation a share of the country their own space.

Teyo knows why the are there and his mission, as I mention he is very good at profiling people, Mark was already interviewed by the FBI and the previous agents found nothing, agent Nuñez went with Teyo without knowing why they are really visiting Mark if they have no warrant and previous agents found nothing, not that they had to tell her the mission but she didn’t get it, Teyo mention they can be provocative and reveal things just by showing up, he is hoping to make Mark nervous for a second visit from the FBI provoke him to make a mistake because the FBI thinks this movement could be harmful and probably under the hood is a conspiracy against the FBI, turns out they were right, agent Nuñez help by Mark’s wife finds a basement full of proof that Mark is about to hit the FBI. The cover of this post is Teyo after a shooting with Mark’s people, while they were leaving him and agent Nuñez were shoot at and he had to go all Die Hard to save his ass and Nuñez.

There was a little bit about Poet on this episode but a very interesting comment from Nazari who Poet will have to spy on in the present timeline 2023 it seems that doesnt end well since on a conversation with Lennix she mention it has been nine years since she talk to Nazari and now she might need her help with a key card that Amons left her with some code on it, Nazari told Poet her thing is saving people, she lend her money to stay and now wants to help Teyo train for his next physical exam, this might be true and probably why Amos Garcia was looking for her, choose her to bring out the truth about the FBI department, this in the future timeline 2034.

This is the guy who try to make Teyo quit, well it seems Teyo profile him correctly, they guy had a racist attitude after attempting to brake a sprint record saying he is now the fastest “white trainee”, you cant come up with that attitude at the FBI specially if you are just a trainee, Teyo pick it up fast and told him he has now been reveal basically saying he expose himself, the FBI is constantly after any kind of racist supremacy movement and this guy behavior fits the profile.

Humans tend to get cocky when they are at the top, we usually think nothing can bring us down and its worrying how Teyo while talking to a senator about the system compares it to something send from heaven like it was created by God himself, he has no hope in humans or even the law, for him profiling people before they could or try to commit a crime is more important than law itself as long as the system keeps bringing positive results, on the other hand the senator tells him not everyone sees the system as a savior.

From what I have seen so far the hero might turn into a villain, Teyo might get consume by power in the future, he is so good at his job that he could turn to be a victim of his own success, can you imagine him getting arrested by the system he created, Teyo becomes a prodigy at the FBI and goes up all the way to the top, on his way up he makes more enemies than friends, the only two that kind of stay close are Lennix and Poet but they had a relationship at some point that didn’t end bad so that’s probably why but it looks like work and success got Teyo away from everyone leaving him alone. If its true that the FBI has turn against the people and might be corrupt or manipulated as Amos says then in the future probably Nazir, Poet and Lennix might go after Teyo to reveal the truth, I’m very exited to what comes next.
