The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live: The Last Time – Season 1 – Episode 6 – RECAP

Source

Well it kinda happen exactly as I was expecting and to be honest I did not enjoy this episode that much, when the series started I said and thought that “The Ones Who Live” would probably be the best TWD spin off from the three that we were getting this year but the last episodes disappoint me in one way or another, from the very long and extensive arguing scenes between Michonne and Rick to the now rush take down of the CRM, Rick try for about eight years to escape and he couldn’t but Jadis was doing it for many years, yes she was smarter than Rick and join the CRM instead of fight it but she make it look too easy, same goes now that Michonne is with Rick they manage to take the CRM down in a single episode? there was nothing extraordinary that help them achieve this and now that Jadis is dead she is irrelevant, all she did was blackmail Rick the entire season.

I have not found information that confirms this is a Mini Series the reason I mention this is because it feels like one and not that there will be a second season, after all TWD has a lot going on with three spin off on the same year but I think the big surprise down the line would be that all them collide with each other at some point. If there is a character I would be waiting for is Throne, now that Rick and Michonne took down General Bale I would guess she is the next one in command, Michonne did hurt her badly towards the end but never gave her the final blow.

Thorne was a true believer on Major Beale but she also like Rick specially after she went up in the rank and that’s funny because before that she most of the time was throwing things are him, Rick gets back from the crash site with Michonne with a cover story and Thorne believe him? wtf.

Source

Jadis is dead, why? because she was too cocky, Michonne was right when she said that she have miss the opportunity to take her and Rick down, she should have done it when they were sleeping, instead she prefer to look them in the eye before killing them, this makes reference to Gabriel but Jadis never actually kill him so I got no clue other that she felt cocky because she out smart them and was now in a position of power, we humans are so weak when it comes to holding power, it consumes anyone, that’s what happen to Jadis.

Michonne comes back with Rick to the CRM and her mission was to find the diary that Jadis kept on her room before the CRM swipe it clean once they figure out Jadis was dead, on this diary was her entire story with Rick and Michonne with the latest update of why “Dhana” aka Michonne was at the CRM, this would put Arcadia and her children in danger.

Source

Beale was a total idiot, he ones look at Rick in the eyes and ask him if he can trust him and Okafor knowing what ever Rick answer was probably a lie, a guy who have tried to escape for many years had the golden ticket to stay “dead” for everyone at the CRM but now decides to come back? if this was say a second time thing I would go for it and trust Rick but out of the trailer Beale decides to bring in Rick to the highest level there is for a CRM soldier, makes no sense and shows that Beale was not trying to out smart Rick, he was truly taking a gamble and believe in Rick, yes he offer him to bring in anyone he wanted into the CRM and that could have been the catch but that’s 50/50 I’m not buying it.

Source
At on this episode Michonne was not arguing with Rick for ever, I really like her performance towards the anger she felt during the briefing for the CRM next missions, how they were going to gas out everyone and only rescue 10% of the children, but then there are details like she have been missing for this long and nobody asks for her? Rick is back but Michonne didn’t have to report to anyone? at least Thorne knew Michonne was back at the CRM, Rick told her and now Michonne is wondering around doing what ever she wants freely to take down the CRM? cmon.

Source
The speech scene between Beale and Rick was interesting because he gave out details of the CRM operations, Throne was always talking about how she now understands everything and its clear for her why she belongs to the CRM, Baele detail the CRM plans to Rick regarding how this might be a lost cause so all he is trying to is defeat the odds, but the outcome of this conversation was too predictable, Rick was fixed on killing Baele no matter what happens, I never doubt this now that Michonne was on sync with him, a surprise was if Rick took Baele deal to bring in anyone he love into the CRM, could probably be easy for him but either if it was true or not same as Michonne, Rick could not deal with all the killing.

Source
Same as I have done before I’m trying to avoid describing the action scenes and talk more about the structure of the episode so I don’t ruin or spoil it for others but it was also predictable the fight scene between Rick and Baele, after all he is a man they could not take down from far distance, it had to be a close fight while been alone, this was Rick only chance and Baele was not match for him, actually I though it would be a harder fight for Rick but it was just too easy, another rush scene.

As you can tell from my comments above I’m not so happy with what happen towards the end of the series, I totally understand the goal was to reunite Michonne and Rick once again and escape from the CRM but they could have make it less easy for them, lets just think how they did all this in less than a year and Rick have been trying for almost eight years to escape? the only variant after Michonne got in is that Okafor was not around. If we compare Daryl Dixon series he was on a similar spot, trying to go back home and deal with Genet and her army but it didn’t felt this rush and easy for him to accomplish this besides she is still around while on The Ones Who Live Baele and Thorne are gone, they even play recording of how the remaining of the CRM have take actions to turn things around and not be the dictatorship that Baele was running, I would have to disagree with the internet on this one and only give this spin off a 7.5/10 while on most websites it got 8 and 9.

I don’t like what has become of this spin off for the last two episodes and I have my suspects of whats going to happen on the last episode, I just hope they are not that stupid to have Rick and Michonne single handle destroy the CRM on a single episode, I based this assumption on the advance scenes at the end of episode five, it shows Rick and Michonne back at Philadelphia, CRM HQ; looks like they taking the place down.

It looks like there is a second season although feels like they rushing things just too much or may be just me getting the wrong idea, I hope I’m wrong about it; six episode is nothing for a season, some might say its just two episodes shorter than the last two spin off first season but in two episodes the entire perspective of the story can change specially been episodes over 45 minutes that is half an average movie duration. Episode five feels like one of those episodes to kill time and explain part of the back story and that they did with all the kissing and loving for the first part of the episode then something almost similar with Anne aka Jadis, I simply didn’t like this episode neither, its a real buzz killer since the season started so good and then it is just a downtrend in terms of lack of action, cruelty, treason and cruelty, after all that is what sells on TWD not loving and kissing.

As mention in the introduction lots of smiling, kissing and making out between Michonne and Rick, not that I don’t want them to be happy on the story is just that we already had an entire episode of them arguing and kissing, can you just give them a new challenge? something that actually entertain because that’s the truth, I wanted to watch loving and kissing would watch another series.

I do like that this episode same as on other spin off gave us a different type of Zombie, like on Daryl Dixon spin off; walkers have mutated based on their environment surrounding both physical and behavior, this time a rock solid Zombie type shows up, they are still easy to beat if you have the right tools in this case rick has a iron fist so he can crack the outside of the zombie head while Michonne stab it with a iron bar, I would say this Zombies are also heavier so they are slower, that makes me think if they are heavier and rotten how can they stand still? probably this was a fresh one.

Rick and Michonne saved some locals who were fighting this Zombie, they explain how they have change because of the steam vents, not sure how that process works though, there are also some other zombies who are almost like melted because of the heat.

All this loving and kissing got Rick and Michonne weak and slow, they were moving around in a YELLOW pickup truck you can see from far away and throwing Ramen wraps on the road, they also gave the locals food after saving them but that’s normal since its the right thing to do although they did try to steal from them back minutes latter when they could pick up their guns, that didn’t go well for them, when it comes to fight Rick and Michonne set the bar very high even if they have no guns.

At least they didn’t entirely set the episode on fire an brought something interesting that will have some value in the future probably, Jadis was not always Jadis, she was once Anne an artist, she was also part of many other groups or communities in the past, as Anne she was in love with Gabriel, I remember him from the OG series, the guy was not always sane but he was OK. Jadis join the CRM because she was basically broken, she could not stand seen other community go down so this time around she wanted to be in control and power, thats what she gets out of the CRM and some how she was the only one to escape without others noticing at least once a year to meat with Gabriel, this shows she is smarter or at least better than Rick when you have to be cold and calculate things properly without feelings in the way.

That is exactly why she finds Rick and Michonne after their helicopter crash, even after they shoot a rocket to the building Anne/Jadis could not believe that it was so easy to kill Rick and Michonne, she knows them too well and knows they are warriors, survivors over all though to kill so she kept looking, follow the clues, the cans and ramen wrap on the road, the yellow truck missing on the crash scene, she knew they were alive until she quickly found them and almost got rid of them but she just talk too much, she miss her advantage and got cocky waking them up and giving them a speech before trying to kill them, its two against one, you cant shoot to places at the same time, one of them going to run or jump you and that is exactly what happen.

Jadis pulls the trigger and Michonne jump her, fuck her up badly on he rips area, Jadis enter desperate mode, loosing lot of blood, this is the type of entertaining I’m looking for not two episodes full of arguing and kissing.

It was obvious Jadis was going to die unless they come up to an agreement but she was just too cocky and proud, she wanted them dead, specially Rick so in disadvantage and hurt still tries to front Rick and pull a gun on him after she ask for temporary truce.

During this hole argument and Mexican stand up, there was the argument to go back to the CRM and change it, this idea came from the least one I though would say it, I even though she was trying to distract Jadis but Michonne meant it, she wants to go back with Rick so he can keep moving into the ranks until they have enough access to weapons and information, they could build a plan and kill say most of the high ranks on the CRM.

I really don’t know whats going to happen next, the idea of going back coming from Michonne got me out of balance, never saw that one coming and at first you can tell neither Rick but seems that’s the plan, Jadis is not on their way anymore and she told them where is their file. I suppose they go back, Rick goes up in the ranks and Michonne moves from citizen too although lets not forget that Pearl mindset has change after her promotion, she is now all in CRM and even if they manage to kill Major Beale they still have to deal with Pearl, she is a bad ass too that can bring on the fight, Rick probably is underestimating her or might think that she will join them, I hope not because then it would be just too easy for Rick and Michonne bring down the CRM.

Rick and Michonne are back at it in the wild, this is good because from now on the series will be more versatile in terms of whats going to happen next, its not anymore about CRM conspiracy but also surviving in the wild so possibilities are infinite. Before they came to an agreement to stay together an entire twenty four hour argument had to happen, this episode made me feel like I was in my 20s again having an argument with my girlfriend, those type of argument that last for days and not even how hard you try can’t come to an agreement, it was exhausting and I was constantly wanting to fast forward but that would ruin the episode for me so I had to stay put with all the bullshit of this episode, I have to say TWD does have a strong fan base because on IMDB this episode got a 9.2 with over 2600+ votes, WTF!

In my opinion this is the worst episode from the last three spin off considering this is the best spin off out of the three, it sounds weird but that’s just how I see it, besides there was nothing special about the ending, I didn’t like it at all but that doesn’t mean its a 1/10 that would be ridiculous just as some people score movies and tv series online, to be fair I would give it a 6/10.

On episode three after their mission, the CRM helicopter was heading back to Philadelphia during a storm, Michonne open the helicopter door and take Rick down with her without even knowing where they would land, there is no way she knew they were over water at that point, probably saw something from the front helicopter window but still. Landed in the water, went back to shore and got into a building where the entire argument starts, Rick immediately ask for the PBR (GPS) back since he lost his, to let know the CRM where they are.

This is if I’m not mistaken the first 20 minutes of the episode, every argument ends up with give me the PRB we need to go back, doesn’t matter how and how many times Michonne tries to raise the case that they have children back home waiting for them, asking for their father and Rick refuse to go back mainly because he fears Jadis will go looking for them because she is all in for the CRM cause and that implies to keep it a secret.

The next day after the storm Michonne is over arguing with Rick because he is the one who does not want to go back so she gave him the PRB and notice that the helicopter they were flying in had hit the building next to them, she save Rick by jumping from the helicopter, this means they are “dead” too, minutes after they notice this another CRM helicopter comes in and launch rockets to destroy the helicopter that had crash trying to leave zero evidence of the CRM behind. Another argument about the hole situation starts, my eyes role back thinking here we go again but Michonne this time cut the bullshit and decided to go home without Rick and he finally decided to go with her, wasn’t easy because the first time they try after another big argument there were walkers outside who stop them from leaving.

Finally after all the arguments and talking Rick explains why he could not go back with her, it was not the fear that the CRM or Jadis will go looking for them, Rick lost his memories, he forgot Carl face first and then fear he would forget Michonne too, that’s why he kept trying to dream about her, there was episode with Rick and Michonne eating in the park, I was like that never happen why this images, well it was Rick forcing himself to not forgetting Michonne face, that is why Rick couldn’t go back with her, at times he totally forgot what he felt for her and now that she is back he remembers but there is some weird confusion going on with him.

If you ask me this is not a confusing episode, its very simple, Rick try everything he could to escape the CRM and go back with Michonne for years, more than eight years trying to escape form the CRM even cut his arm to the point he start forgetting his love ones, like his son Carl and fear he forgets about Michonne too but when he finally took the desicion to go all in the CRM, when the military life suck him in, Okafor gave him a purpose again a life within the CRM by promoting him, days latter Michonne appears again on his life, the decision was easy go back with her but he didn’t he actually made things worst for them by taking Michonne back with him to Philadephia because Jadis now knows they together and I’m sure that most likely she will go after them the main reason for this assumption is because Rick knows way too much about the CRM and Jadis did mention that if they escape would be the first ones to do it, the CRM will lift every stone on earth to find them and finish them.
