You might think “another Walking Dead spin off” there will be more in the future, The Walking Dead is way more than just the OG series and they going to milk it, I’m happy with it as long as the actors remain the same if possible and production is as good, with new TV Series format each episode is one hour long including intro/outtro also with The Walking Dead spin off there is at the end a “On the next episode…” that either gives you snippets of whats next and an analysis of whats happening.

This story is about the man you see on the image above, Daryl Dixon who left home looking for something new, something meaningful and exciting, it looks like the story doesn’t start from the beginning so it might be confusing at first and you will ask yourself how did he got there? all there is a guy tied to a boat, did he do that to himself? no, there is much more than that.

Zombies are not the topic anymore but if I’m not mistaken this is the first time that we see a mutation on them, on Daryl Dixon there are “boilers” as they call them, Zombies that can burn your skin as they touch you, their insides are acid and burn anything in contact, they die the same way just stick something to their head, they are also slow as usual, same as The Walking Dead: Dead City, Zombies are not the topic of the story anymore, its about the journey of the main Character.

Daryl had no mission when he got to France, yes by the way this story is develop in France, so that’s cool that the story moves to another continent, in here Daryl face language barrier, I can imagine myself, nothing to loose, surviving, exploring the country I have never been at, must be cool, only problem is that the world is trying to kill you every minute, either Zombies get your or humans does.

If you are new to the story, don’t know who this guy is or how he got there, this is Daryl Dixon, arrives to a beach in France after he was tied to a boat, details will be tell down the road. The end of man kind has happen, the world is full of Zombies, those who survive feel usually lonely and threatened by existence itself, its very rare to see people happy on The Walking Dead universe other than kids or anything involving kids, adults just never, I guess the stress of staying alive, the suffering of loosing love ones, Daryl is the same, that’s one of the reasons whey he end up tied to a boat.

All we know is that Daryl was looking for something new or meaningful, I don’t know why yet because if I’m not mistaken he had a wife and kid back home, people who care for him, now he arrive the shores of France, starts exploring to find out it is just the same thing, he finds a guy audio tape with recordings that this guy has been 19 months navigating the sea, Spain, France, there is no safe place until slowly they all start to die for different reasons, so Daryl I think leaving home was stupid.

Until now we were still in regular schedule, he starts exploring and got attack by Zombies at a warehouse where he was looking for supplies or anything of value, only difference is that when this Zombies touch you, they burn your skin since their rotten insides are acid and burn anything in contact, once this happen my first question was, is he infected? do they now turn when they get touch? how long it takes for him to turn? , after he got burn by this Zombie end up killing all of the and took off.

Zombie apocalypse all the remaining survivors have turn into real mother fuckers in one way or another, so if this ever happen trust no one you don’t know, as Darys keeps exploring he find this two, Maribelle and her grandfather, they look innocent at not a threat at first, I thought at first they were going to shoot Daryl, but they offer him to trade medical supplies for food so he accept.

The entire world is full of Zombies, its a virus, every human that dies turns into a Zombie so unless there is a cure there will always be Zombies around, but there are less every day I guess, humans start to go out more so some one has to take charge of the territory, guerrillas form and start to control the country, a patrol finds Daryl and his new “friends”, they start an argument about who Daryl is, they try to take Maribelle with them and he tries to stop them but shoot him back, I was like they can’t kill him yet so Maribelle and Daryl end up getting out of this tight situation, kill them all but her smart ass grandfather decides to betray Daryl, the old bastard was not blind at all so takes a cheap shot at him, knock him out. This guerilla guys were part of the group related to Daryl in a way, the reason why he got tied to the boat, part of the story that has not been explained yet, one of they two guys that were killed, by Maribelle not even Daryl, was the guerrilla boss brother, he would want so revenge right?

Daryl is found wounded, burn, knocked out; by Sister Isabelle, they saw each other from the distance at a place he was exploring, he is taking to the convent she is part of and the first thing they did was to cauterize where he was touche by the Zombie, yes it spread, yes people die and turn because of that so I was right on that one, it was only obvious.

The convent is a kind of sanctuary, good amount of nuns who are basically self sustain, traditions and believe in God is not so strong during the times of apocalypse but humans still respect it and keep their distance so it gives them some what protection been inside the convent, reason why they could stay alive without been attacked.

At the convent there were all nuns except there was a 12 year old kid who was born at the convent, his mother died. I should have seen this at first, Isabelle was kind of a modern nun as she does not discard others people believes and knew how to use a gun, defend herself.

Daryl meets the kid, Laurent; since he is the only kid in the convent they teach him everything they could from math, geography, instruments, but there was something more, classic messiah story, nuns think Laurent is the savior of the world and Daryl the messenger, they have this prophecy that Daryl needs to take Laurent to Paris so he can guide society, not sure why they would think this, if you look around there is no government, there is no country, there is no resistance, there is just Zombies and humans who kill each other, the nuns even had a Zombie inside the last father turn and they thought this was a punishment from God that at some point would end and father Pere Jean would once again be human, the moment Daryl discover this he took some supplies, guns and walk away.

When Daryl was leaving he notice the guerrilla going into the convent, they were looking for him, Maribelle snitch on him, she was found with her grandfather by the guerrilla because obviously no body kills the boss brother and stay alive, the fighting between nuns and the guerrilla starts after they “killed” Pere Jean.

Daryl is old and looks like on every fight from now he will end in the floor about to die and saved by some one else, really again? Once everything was over there were a lot of casualties, the place was a mess, lot of new Zombies around, few survivors and the nuns still have their prophecy with Daryl as the messenger and Laurent their savior, Daryl thinks twice what he has done and only wants to come home, Isabelle mention a port that is still active close to Paris, Daryl offer her a trade, he will take them to Paris and she will show him the way to the port.

The scenes at the convent and Daryl are done but towards the end of the episode its reveal from where Daryl came, who tied him to the boat and a few characters that we know nothing about yet, the is a women who show up with body guards, her name Genet, look like she is in charge of a military movement or another guerrilla, probably she has a connection with the guerilla boss who tried to kill Daryl.

They either experimenting with Zombies or some how use them, on The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Croat use Zombies as fuel, extracting the methane, Zombies on the ship have masks so they cant bite others but I dont see gloves or anything that protect humans from contact so probably this are regular Zombies. Genet arrives because there was an incident at a lab inside, I assume it was Daryl since the Captain told Genet the responsible died after he went overboard, Genet doesn’t trust the captain’s word, she knows he is incompetent and knows the man who started all this is an American, soon we will see Genet after Daryl’s ass.

For episode one it was a handful, feels like it was an hour and half, so many details, the convent at first felt refreshing like finally a place to stay but then as the story start to unfold Daryl fall into a situation he never ask for that’s why the second he figure out how fucked up things were inside the convent he didn’t want to be part of it, he already had enough troubles to take such responsibility, Paris is fucking far away from where they are, feels like another The Last of Us journey, but Isabelle got him when she mention the active port close to Paris.

This spin off stories are not about the Zombies anymore, I have mention this on other spin off, its about what happen to the main character in this case Daryl, the entire apocalypse theme is oversold and predictable so most of the situations as they happen you will figure them out right away but the are others like Maribelle and her grandfather, who would thought the old man was faking been blind, the experiment with Zombies seems interesting, what the fuck they doing experimenting with Zombies on a ship? what for? also how and why did Daryl start a mutiny? was a prisoner here? this is the attractive part of the story, not just the Zombies and Daryl.

Hirozaku is missing and Issei his son just got the news, him and his dad are very close but Issei cant keep asking himself why is he on this competition with Camille, he starts to question what could be the ties between him and Alexander Ledger rather than been just his student and its here when he discover he was more than just a regular student, after his dad disappear and his family officially turning his back on him Issei feels very low, lost stamina, out of strength. The story of Issei is finally getting stronger and starting to take shape, took it five episodes and it feels great because at this point we know a lot about Camille and here role on this series and I knew at some point Issei part of the story will become important, will be given more screen time, this episode is mostly about Issei and his family different than the first four when he was just on the side lines been the great Sommelier he is and stepping over Camille on the contest but not given that much screen time as he got on this episode.

At the moment of writing this episode I already saw episode six and I think for the rest of the season Honoka is going to get trashed badly, on episode four we learn how she and Alexander became lovers and Hirozaku save her reputation at taking Issei as his own son, making everyone think he is the father of a Tomine Diamond, the father of Honoka son when actually Issei is Alexander Ledger son, Camille step brother and the second reason he is on the contest, other than Honoka and Hirozaku no body else knows, at least until now her father Noboru Tomine haven’t show signs he knew so the moment this goes out to light because it will, at some point Issei is going to reveal this secret and bring it to the press, at least for now he just discover the real connection between Alexander and his mother but doesn’t have like real strong proof he is Alexander son, who knows if Honoka even kill herself the moment this news go out, we have seen on most Japaneses stories how some times the characters commit suicide when their honor gets beaten so hard and that’s whats going to happen with her and unfortunately with Hirozaku too because lets not forget that even though he did a great thing at taking care of Issei he also lied to the Tomine family for many many years.

Camille is evolving, now she has been offered to take care of his father book, The Ledger Guide, a wine guide that in the series represent basically the bible of wine, if your vineyard, your wine, and the editor talks well about it, it becomes and automatic success, Luca owns 45% of the Guide, it feels they want to use Camille because of her image, because of her last name but not really because they believe she can do same or better than her father after all Issei is way better than her on the technique and knowledge but she has this rare talent for wine tasting.

Until now Luca has been too good of a friend to Camille as he was to her father Alexander but if we look back is a man who is all about business and money, for example how Thomas offer to buy a $10k bottle of wine and took Camille to the vineyard that was miles away but when ask Luca he said he cant and wont open a $10k bottle just to wonder and ifs, all this time he has offer Camille his help, his nephew and Miyabi but this will change soon when Luca stakes on the Ledger and the contest itself look at risk by Camille actions.

Honoka seriously is so selfish, for her everything is in second place even her son and husband, she calls Issei to inform him that his father ran away and left behind his wallet, keys and personal things without saying he was going, even try to make Issei responsible for it after he mention they had this argument before he ran away but the truth is Hirozaku ran away because he couldn’t take Honoka rudness on how she treat him, they had a date and she never went, it was the drop that spilled the glass. During the argument when Honoka try to put this on Issei he clearly said it back “You are the one who always humiliate him”, it is about time that people around Honoka stops thinking she is this golden women just because she is part of the Tomine Diamond family and it starts with her son and husband, this is just the beginning, soon all the dirty cloth will be out.

Different than Honoka, her father Noboru is a bad ass and said things to your face, this is the moment when Issei is no longer part of the Tomine family, his grand father tells him he now MUST WIN, he has his support as grand father but Issei been on that contest discredit the Tomine family because he is or was the future of his family and didn’t need to compete for a inheritance, he already had one, Issei been on that contest is an insult that his grand father wont take, at least that’s his perspective, I’m not saying its my opinion, competing for Alexander wine collection is a huge price, Issie could do it for that reason and not because of the rest of the money but still that’s his grand father point of view and he is officially out of the family, the press conference was just a PR move from the family since Issei was getting so much attention on the news. Imagine, your father is missing, your own mother doesn’t support you and is a lying bitch and now your grand father kicks you out of the family, with a family like that you needs enemies.

Issei is getting all the love on this episode, he is now getting a lot of screen time and we starting to learn more of him as a person not just what a great Sommelier he is and that his family has money but more about how he is, why he was so arrogant at first, lets face it look at his mother and grand father, Issei for sure inherit that attitude from them. With his father missing and all this troubles with the rest of this family plus the contest pressure he is very down and look for someone who can listen to him, he has to vent out and choose Yurika Katase a journalist who he has been talking to in the past to get the contest covered, when they start talking about his father missing he still have the idea he ran away because of the argument the had but Yurika as a journalist see things different, why disappear now? he must have a secret? this is when Issei took interest on learning how his parents met at the university and whats really their story, he knew they both study together and met Alexander, he goes to the university to get more information about it with the excuse he wants to throw a party for his parents and bring this professor too. He ask her to help him find his father and she agrees with the condition that she gets an exclusive interview, Issei agree and she did help him, at least got a clue where his father went after he took the train.

I was so curious and excited about Issue story on this episode that Luca offering Camille the Ledger Guide was like Meeeh, btw Camille throw herself at Thomas and he reject her one night the got drunk, this was telegraphed from far away. Luca, business, The Ledger Guide, Luca and the publisher lure Camille to continue with the Guide but why putting so much pressure into it? they had her taste a wine her father like very much and Luca said its that easy just your opinion the wine you try but who knows if that’s really what will appear on the Guide after it gets edited, she doesnt look interested.

Issei kept his word and gave Katase the interview she ask for, on that interview he recognize how his grand father support is real and how he can understand one thing is family business and another thing is him supporting him as his grand father, at the end of the interview makes clear he will never take the Tomine Diamond family business no matter the results of the contests for Alexander Ledger inheritance, this was public strike one for Honoka. When Issei went to the university to get info on his parents and Alexander he got the name of Alexander translator, she is now old and very kind and knew the truth about Honoka and Alexander, Issei was talking about his father Hirozaku but for the translator it was a different man, it was Alexander and here when she slip and mention “….giving the class just for her” Issei was like WTF my father Hirozaku was a student, wasn’t he?

Mic drop….. she reveal the true story of how Hirozaku became his father but his biological father is Alexander, now a lot of things make sense for Issei.

This episode was a blast from start to finish, it shows now Noburu really likes his grand son but has a family name to defend, Honoka house of cards is about to go down and Issei has no mercy to her, Issei is opening up and starting to realize he cant win this contest alone not with all this problems he is having at his family after all he is wining the contest and has a lot of tools and experience Camille doesn’t but all that stress generated by family problems might tip him over, Camille was basically irrelevant to this episode but the next episodes will be fireworks now that Issei might look at Camille different and become more friendly even try to get closer to her, this tv series is awesome so far 8/10 and how knows it could probably get a 9/10 with upcoming seasons.

Rabbit Hole : Episode 7 – Personal Thoughts

This is the first episode where the inception effect felt the most, through the entire episode John felt paranoiac having a hard time to figure out whats real and whats not, him and Valence after cracking Ben safe box were together for life, both have unique skills and John was good at identifying different possibilities to the point that he would have a great guess at what others where thinking, its kinda what Dr Strange did at end game see the different outcomes but in John’s case he was just guessing to identify probabilities, sometimes he fall into this mix of realities and even put words on others people mouth when they didn’t but its all on his head, most of this thought process was based on experience and always be prepare for the worst outcome, he cant tell the future, but during this process sometimes he takes it to the extreme to the point he cant identify whats real and whats not that’s when he starts falling into the Rabbit Hole and Valence was the one bringing him back to reality, in his absence Ben is the closest to Valence but John doesn’t trust him at all. For me its still not clear what Hailey wants or where she is coming from and now seems that the old guy with silver hair and no name is not Crowley as I thought, this episode was great, not the best of the season but still close to the top.

After they manage to pull the briefcase Senator Evers wanted the crew finds out its all numbers that could take them ages to figure out, they start arguing why did she wanted so bad the content of the briefcase, they thought there would be something more clear to the naked eye like a USB with a bunch of emails, photos or videos that incriminate her and this is when John starts to fall through the Rabbit Hole trying to figure out the reason why it was so important and what the numbers could mean but during this process same as when he was a kid starts to imagine people saying or thinking things they haven’t so its like he repeat the same scene many times in his head like a time loop but with different outcomes and sometimes this lead him to the truth and other times he gets lost in this case without Valence to pull him out, this is when he told Ben he is the one who want the Data Act to pass, but Ben never said that and its Hailey who pull Weir from the Rabbit Hole.

Homm #edisnotdead stays at the safe house with Ben as John and Hailey have other plans, well at first it was just John going after the possibility that Valence could still be alive since he was still getting chats on this online game they use to play, John was not sure about it so decided to go out without telling the rest this is when Hailey thought it was a good idea to go after him, see this are the things that get me thinking she got good intentions with John but then she does other things like hiding the fact she stole crypto from her previous boss, the story she find out about John on a dating app I still don’t buy it and on previous episode she was getting between Ben and John to the point telling John he doesn’t have to listen to Ben, I get Ben sometimes is too hard with John but he still his father and a fkn spy, their job is to be hard on others and trust no body. John is not thinking clear and goes out in plain day light because he thinks his link at the safe house is compromise, but the guy who I thought is Crowley already had face recognition cameras after John the moment he goes public, his data collection company already has a lot of power over the city with cameras and all kind of monitoring services at his disposal.

John goes to this electronics store to enter a chat session on one of the computers for sale, some one might do that to connect from a outside internet source although its not the safe option for many reasons but I think at this point it doesnt really matter, all eyes are on John the minute he goes out, on this chat session he continues the conversation with a user who is suppose to be Valence and starts writing on encrypted code, alpha numeric where a combination of numbers would give him the real message, the person on the other side wants John to betray Ben pretending that Ben is with Crowley, then John is given a very long message that he didnt have time to decode while on site or at least he didnt show it on camera. John figure out a guy from the shop is about to rat him out and police will be there any minute so decided to walk away from the store and Hailey found him, she called John a record the call to figure out where he was, this was very clever from her, it here when John explains how his method of figuring out things work but sometimes its too dangerous putting him on a spot he cant come back and usually is Valence who help him out to stay focus.

John gets rid of Hailey with the old trick of getting together into a bus and then he goes out at the last second leaving her trap on the bus so she goes back to the safe house, where Homm has figure out everything, same as he did before the guy is a genius with numbers and finds out everything is connected, he did it in a very short time but there were a couple of USB with all the data, don’t know how much data it could be but still he figure out that ll the numbers represent accounts that were connected receiving payments probably as bribes and who ever got this information would control everyone on the list, this was Crowley operation, Senator Evers wanted the information for herself not because she was been blackmail, Evers most likely work with Crowley but now she is dead so we will never knew what was her connection with the man.

After everything Homm and Ben explain to Hailey she still took the stupid decision to take the data to agent Jo Madi, I really don’t understand why she would do that if the real enemy or the ones shooting at John or trying to get him is not the Federals, they don’t even have a clue where he is at, its Crowley that is after him and trying to kill them all, when Jo Madi show the files to his boss he intermediately bribe her because he knows the magnitude if this data goes out, probably he is with Crowley without even knowing it, Jo Madi either is naive or she is in it too, asks for her old job posision and be the head of the task force after John, either she is obsess with John or at some point will do the right thing and help him out, I still believe at the end she could work with him against Crowley.

John picks up a package at his ex wife house that Valance schedule to send him before he died, it was this old stone he had at his office, at first John thought it was an encrypted message so he takes it his safe house but on the way the intern shows up again and takes him to “Crowley” or at least the old guy I thought it was Crowley, actually had a hinge he was but they never confirm his name, the guy is sitting in the middle of a plaza trying to brain wash John until he snaps and found a microphone on his ear, it was some one else watching them and telling this guy what to say. Obviously that brain wash session had some effect on John so when he gets back to the safe house with Valence package it takes it on Ben and had one of those paranoia episodes again thinking that Ben is with Crowley, John is not sure if to kill Ben but then Homm was playing around with the old stone inside the package and found a USB with Valence last message to John before he died.

After Valence died things between Ben and John were very turbulent because none of them knew why Valence kill himself and John always blame Ben for Valence death, on this video that Valence took with his cell phone before he died, Valence clear things out of John, it was obvious that Crowley had something over him but all Valence said he infiltrate Arda and he was going to kill John and Valence, Valence decides to kill himself but why not tell John and run away with him? what difference does it make him jumping out of a balcony to put more heat over John, not only Crowley wants to kill him but now the police thinks John killed Valence, everything started with the case Homm was working on that Ben and Valence knew about that’s why they kidnap Homm to safe him but still I’m not sure if Valence killing himself helps John at all, finally John makes peace with Ben for good and they plan to do what ever it takes to stop Crowley.

Hailey haven’t told everyone she gave all this valuable data to Jo Madi I wonder what will be John and Ben answer to that, on this episode a lot of information is reveled, things that were a mystery like why Valence kill himself, he did it to safe John since he was too comprise by Crowley knowing everything about his plan and no matter where he goes he would find him, its like having an infected computer sometimes its just better to get a new one but since you cant get a new body and transfer your conscience yet, he decided to end it but I still think he could have run away with John and figure out how to get Crowley, with Valence video we also confirm that Ben is on John’s side because there were a few moments that it wasn’t clear enough with Ben hiding things from John, also its confirm that the old man with grew hair is not Crowley just another of his employee. Great episode, I got no complains and never felt things were rush or too easy, loving this tv series, would give this episode an 8 / 10, based on IMDB there are two more episodes to go.
